CINTA Reviews (2006)

At least I told myself, at the most, it would be the Malay version of
the 2003 English hit.
But, as the movie went on, I sank into the film, feeling ashamed that I
doubted it.
Cinta stood out on it’s own.
No, I’m not a crybaby or a hopeless romantic, but the film truly has its
own touch, at least, according to the girl beside me, who was secretly
weeping during the more soppy parts of the movie.
Directed by first-timer Kabir Bhatia, with the script written by Mira
Mustaffa, five love stories with different tunes were assembled into one
film.
Although each story stands independently, the characters and the love
stories are connected beautifully and smoothly, leaving the viewer
craving for more drama.
The combination of the young and old generations of love, added more
spice to Cinta, opening the audience up to a wider range of love’s
dimensions.
Having less of a variety of actors and actresses worked for Cinta.
From Amani to Datuk Rahim Razali, everyone played their part naturally,
engaging the audience with their emotional struggles.
Even though Cinta is set in a modern contemporary style, reflecting the
urban setting of Kuala Lumpur, different looks of love are portrayed in
different walks of life.
From the naive kampung girl to the owner of a publishing empire, every
role carries the same theme, a theme that never fades with time.
It wasn’t all about love in Cinta, but the element of humanity was also
injected, adding more depth to the flick.
With solid performances from veterans Datuk Rahim Razali and Fatimah Abu
Bakar, who has not been on the big screen for a long time, plus a
soothing soundtrack, make this movie a must-see.
